i think it means that when they tested your blood they could not find something called the rheumatoid factor. It doesn't mean that you don't have RA. You can be sero positive or sero negative and still have RA. Naomi X

Hi Linda,

Naomi is correct, you do not have to have the rheumatoid factor in your bloods, to have rheumatoid arthritis, i have had the juvenile version of rheumatoid arthritis for 50 years, and have never had a rheumatoid positive reading. It can however affect which drugs, may or may not suit you.

My hairdresser told me that her G.P. told her that she has the rheumatoid factor, picked up in a routine blood test, although she has never had any signs of R.A., but the disease is in her family. Interesting! So it can also be the other way round!

Hi

My aunt has positive RF no RA. Apparently a % of population do

The anti ccp test is more accurate

There are specific things for those with negative rf
Less likely to develop severe ra

Hi I have been sero negative R.A for 5 years. the only problem I've had with it, was getting diagnosed, once the rhuematoligist, said what it was, never had a problem since. it still causes pain and inflamation just like everyone else has
